Thankfully it is Only Every Four Years

Not the Olympics.... ELECTION YEAR.

We are in a Swing State, one that is very important to the 2012 Presidential Election. Commercial blocks are 95% election based. It is difficult forkids to sift through the ominous music and scary topics these commercials air.

*NOTE*

I will refrain from blasting my own political preference on the web. But voting is an important thing to teach children about as it is a right not everyone in the world has. This is a very teachable moment that will hopefully instill political savvy in my children that will carry them far in life!

The upcoming election will be a great topic for teaching later this month! I haven't decided if I want to take the reality approach: teaching about the candidate and their actual positions, or if I want to use fictional characters. I will keep you posted on that one.

Either way, I found some great resources via pinterest, and created a board called For Kids: Election Day  that has some really great links for election activities and information! I will spend time this weekend and next printing, gathering and putting together all of the stuff we need for our own little election unit!
